Rainy Weather Lawn Concerns
Why does my Grass look Yellow?
Don't be alarmed if you notice that your cut lawn grass blades turn yellow. This is due to lack of good light getting down close to the ground in addition to all the rain we've had recently. Do not put down more fertilizer on your lawn if you've already put down a lawn fertilizer containing a weed pre-emergent chemical like prodiamine. Don't worry your grass will green back up with a few days of good sunshine.
Turf Disease:
Any turf disease that appears due to the excessive rain will look a little threatening but don’t worry the problem will only be aesthetic and not life threatening. Relax and be patient. Like us, it will get better with sunny weather.
Weed Seed Control:
If you put down any pre-emergent weed seed control that did not contain Prodiamine, your protection is now gone. With all the rain, 90 day products are too diluted. You should still get 6 months protection using Fertilome's Lawn Food plus Crabgrass and Weed Preventer containing the chemical Prodiamine. If you want additional protection for all other brands, go ahead and put Prodiamine down on your lawn to control all those summer germinating weeds.

Buyer Beware! Advertised Lawn Products Too Good to Be True

Patch Perfect is not so Perfect.
Patch Perfect a product being advertised on TV which claims that their grass will grow on concrete block. Well, so will any sod that you need to water several times a day.

What you'll receive for $19.95 plus shipping and handling is annual rye grass seed imbedded in paper pulp. You'll get another bag free plus the shipping and handling. Both bags will cover a total of 200 sq. ft. You can plant your own rye grass seed and enough straw to seed 200 sq. ft. for $3.49. You don't have to be a college scholar to figure which way is more economical!

It's still too Early to Plant Annual Flowers
Mother's Day 2011 is too Early to Plant

If old habits continue this May, we have always gotten cold to chilly weather around the May full moon.
This year it will occur Wednesday night, May 17th.

Remember, May 21st is or should be the safe time to plant tender annuals. Buyer beware or at least be informed.
Prevent New Weeds from Getting in Your Landscape Beds
Apply Dimension to all your planting beds. Do this soon because Maple trees have an over abundant amount of seeds that will soon be coming to a garden bed near you. Those little maples that start to grow on your lawn will be eliminated by your lawn mower but you'll need weed preventer for your landscape beds.

Please put the Dimension Down this Weekend.
