Spring has always been associated with re-birth, a fresh start, and color. This fresh start will provide new opportunities to complete many of the projects we postponed because of last year’s drought.
The effects of drought on trees and shrubs can be characterized as short term or long term. Short-term damage, caused by one dry spell, includes wilting, leaf scorch, and some defoliation. Long-term damage from drought happens over a period of years and includes stunted growth, branch die-back, and possible death of the plant. Many woody plants can take up to three years after a drought to display negative long-term effects. Time will tell how much damage was caused by last year’s drought to our existing plants. We should all focus on thinking positive because Mother Nature really is much stronger than most people give her credit for.
I can say there is one good thing about the 2007 drought and that is it is over and we can now all look forward to a brand new growing season.
If 2007 left your landscape in sad shape we have plenty of people, and ways to cheer it up. Choosing the right plants for your location and caring for them properly are the best ways to lessen a drought’s long term impact. We have a lot of great people to help you make the right plant choices and can show you how to be a successful gardener. Whether you shop at our store or use our professional landscape services you’ll be working with someone who loves gardening and plants as much as you do. Our nursery professionals want to help you improve your landscape and put a smile on your face
We’ve had a very positive transition of employees over the last few years. This transition has created the most enthusiastic group of people we have ever had. I have always felt enthusiasm is contagious. If you want a good dose of gardening enthusiasm I encourage you to work with the professionals of Bloomin Garden Centre and Denny McKeown Landscape.
