The Christmas Cactus is a tropical plant that when properly taken care of, will bloom once to twice a year. They normally bloom during short daylight periods, November through March, but will sometimes throw off a few blooms during the summer.
General Tips:
1. Grow your Christmas Cactus in a pot just large enough to keep plant standing erect.
2. A potting mixture of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite is best.
3. Water only when dry, do not keep wet.
4. Repot only after many roots start growing on outside of the soil clump (remove plant from pot to examine for excess roots). Place in next size diameter pot.
5. Fertilize March through October following instructions on your fertilizer container.
6. Place outdoors (if possible) from mid-May to mid-September in a shady location.
7. Keep plant in room where indoor temperatures remain around 70 degrees and where no additional light is used after sun goes down.
8. Add to your chances of December blooms by not watering your Christmas Cactus during October. Then begin watering, but not feeding, as usual.
