Valentine’s Day and the Roses are Blooming
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Once again cupid will be shooting his arrow. The majority of Valentines Day recipients will be receiving roses this year as a way of expressing one’s love. The bloom colors of the roses you buy or receive have different meanings. Bloom color means much more than just “I Love You”. Different colors and combinations of colors cover a whole list of meanings. Red Roses... “I love you”. White Roses... “You’re heavenly” Yellow Roses... Joy and Gladness. Coral or Orange Roses... Enthusiasm and desire Pink Roses...Grace and gentility, and “Thank You”. Red and White Roses together... Unity. Red and Yellow Roses Combined... Congratulations! Yellow and Orange Roses Mixed... Passionate Thoughts. Pink and White Roses together... “I love you still and always will”. A Single Rose... Perpetual Love You also have the option of presenting your Valentine with a gift card for Knock Out Roses which can be planted in the spring. You can pick out the color or you can give them the choice of picking out their favorite color when they pick them up in the spring. This will be a gift of flowers your Valentine can enjoy the entire growing season for many years to come. Not Just for People February is also courting time for a lot of wild life in the neighborhood. The following is a list of common critters that court and mate this month.
Additional courting information includes skunks that will leave that wonderful perfume in the air plus male skunks often have territory disputes with one another during courtship and it is not uncommon for the loser to go home stinky as well as the neighborhood the dispute occurred. Foxes are said to be “twitter pated” as they coo and yelp looking for love. Great horned owls are already on the nest (courtship occurred in January) so Valentine’s Day for them means Mr. Owl brings Mrs. Owl a fresh caught mouse for a romantic diner while she is incubating eggs. Happy Valentine’s Day. |
